Our Most Popular TV Aerials

Our charge for a single TV aerial installation to 1 room (e.g. living room or bedroom) is just £80 fully-fitted. For single TV aerial systems we use the excellent Antiference RX-12 Aerial – a 12 element aerial that gives superb signals for one a room location.

Here we have an RX12 TV Aerial, with a dual-splitter. For two room installs, this is the best way of receiving Freeview TV in your home to two locations for example lounge, and a bedroom or conservatory.

With the combination of a Blake XKO5 aerial (Diagram 1) and a antiference masthead 4 way splitter (Diagram 2) you can enjoy a neat and perfect reception installation incorporating up to 4 cables to 4 locations, example Lounge, 2 bedrooms and a conservatory.

blake-K05 aerialThis image shows a Blake XKO5 TV Aerial, a powerful 32 element aerial that is filtered from 4G mobile phone signals giving excellent front to back signal to noise levels. It is used in conjunction with a antiference 4 output masthead splitter gives you perfect reception in up to 4 rooms.

masthead-splitterThis image shows a masthead 4 way Splitter, which is LTE filtered so it can’t be affected by the mobile phone service 4G. It gives incredibly low signal loss per output when used in conjunction with the Blake XKO5 aerial. Also the box it is housed in is securely water tight.

Most new-build homes are not fitted with TV aerials as standard.

It’s standard procedure for most housing developers to fit the TV aerial cables to in the loft space, adjacent to the loft hatch, this facilitates a full loft aerial installation where the signal levels allow it.

In this illustration we used a Fracarro LP45F Log Aerial which is a small antenna but gives excellent front to back signal levels and is ideal for loft installations. Also used here is an Optima Variable Amplifier which allows us to set exact signal levels, although this does require a mains electricity supply to be available in the loft space. If no mains electricity supply is in place, an alternative method can be used.

LTE (Long Term Evolution)

The pictures above show two aerials – the one on the left is an old type group CD aerial whilst the image on the right shows a modern LTE type aerial. The government and manufacturers agreed on the colour white to identify a fully digital LTE era compatible aerials. This is identifiable to the customer by the aerial having a white cap on the end of the boom as shown in picture 2 above.

What is the Difference?

The old group type have a green cap on the aerial boom where as the new types have white caps on the boom. This is to display the aerial is LTE filtered. A CD group aerial is tuned to receive UHF signals up to channel RF 69 but this is now where the 4G signals are broadcasted, meaning CD aerials are prone to mobile phone interference. The white cap LTE aerials are tuned not to receive above RF channel 60. UK DTT (Digital Terrestrial Transmissions) finish at channel RF 59. 4G band is 62 to 69. All our aerials are LTE type.

Why we Only Ever use the aerial lashing system

A lot of inexperienced aerial installers use something called an SSB (self support bracket). This is commonly referred to in the trade as a knock-on, as this describes how the bracket attaches to the chimney. However, this is an insecure installation as the bracket can fall down over time often with the bricks still attached to the bracket.

At Aerial & Sky Services we only use what is known as a lashing system. This is a multi-strand wire cable that fits securely around all four corners of the stack whereas a ‘knock-on’ system are simply two clamp pins that are hammered into the stack mortar line and tightened up. Insurance companies frown on SSB installs, and if they come down and cause damage to the room, some insurers will not cover damage caused.

The video opposite demonstrates this issue perfectly. At this property in Rainhill, Merseyside two bricks on the stack should have been re-cemented and some important flashing work had also been missed. Had this been done in the correct way (as we ourselves did during this replacement project) it would never have fallen down. Make no mistake, a high tensile steel lashing will always out last a knock on job 100%.

water-tight-seal-cable-coverAll cables are drilled from inside to out, as per our public liability insurance requirements. The covers we use give a watertight seal, and cover any slight damage caused by drill bits to the brickwork face.
